Grand Lake Casino Charity Golf & Blackjack Tournament Raises Funds for School
A total of twenty-three teams participated in the Grand Lake Casino Charity Golf and Blackjack Tournament held Friday, August 19. All players on each of the teams participating in the golf tournament at Patricia Island Golf Club were automatically entered in a $3,000 blackjack tournament following golf competition.
The annual tournament is part of Grand Lake Casinos continuing commitment to “give back” to the community, according to casino General Manager Dusty Logan. For thirteen years, the tournament has raised money for the Turkey Ford School.
“With all the state and federal budget cuts, it has become increasingly difficult for schools to keep up with rising costs,” Logan said. “That is particularly true with a small school like Turkey Ford. To date, Grand Lake Casino has donated $150,000 to the schools and we are excited to donate again this year,” he said.
Government funding for Turkey Ford Schools has been allocated for instruction of students and operation costs, Logan said, leaving nothing for badly needed upkeep, maintenance, and repairs of facilities. Needed repairs at the school include replacement of the gym floor (which was installed more than a century ago), replacement of a cook stove, and replacement of a refrigeration unit in addition to electrical and HVAC repairs.
“The Grand Lake community has been very good to us, allowing us to continue to grow and provide quality jobs in the area while continuing operation of a very successful business,” Logan said. “We consider it our responsibility to give back to our community wherever and whenever possible – and nothing is more important than our schools.
“We are grateful for all the participants in this year’s Charity Golf and Blackjack Tournament, and we know the administrators, teachers, and students at Turkey Ford Schools are grateful for the badly needed support, as well,” he concluded.
The Charity Golf and Blackjack Tournament is only one of many community support events and projects sponsored by Grand Lake Casino.
