The South Grand Lake Lions host Veteran's Remembrance Event

Saturday, November 12, 2016, the South Grand Lake Lions will be honoring all service men and women. Our Veterans Day Remembrance program will begin at 10:00 A.M. At the Veterans Honor Plaza in downtown Langley. Once again the Freedom Riders will bring our colors to the Plaza escorted by the Tia Juana Fire Department and Captain Jim Smart. They will be escorted into the Plaza by the Thunderbird Color Guard. This year we will also have the pleasure of the Thunderbird Flag Platoon as they present the flag of United States of America. If you have not witnessed this you really should make arrangements to support these young men and women. It truly is an awesome sight.

The Ketchum High School Choir under the direction of Mr. Robbie Lewis will be on hand and will perform for us as well. They are an amazing group of talented young men and women. They will be performing the National Anthem along with a variety of patriotic songs. Ms. Alainye Schmacher will be performing Amazing Grace.

As a special blessing this year Mr. Louie Mouse a twenty year veteran of the Navy and the National Guard will give the Invocation. Blessing all who have served in his native Cherokee language and the benediction of the Lords Pray in Cherokee as well.

Our guest speaker this year will be Lieutenant Colonel Don Wadley. South Grand Lake Lions President Tami Bailey will read “You Are Not Forgotten” the P.O.W. Remembrance Ceremony. Mr. Clarence Turner the 93 years young World War II Veteran, Boatswains’ Mate 1st Class will lead the audience singing God Bless America. He is truly an inspiration to us all.

Becky Moore and Phil Bethel, members of the Veterans Plaza Committee will announce the winners of “Our American Hero” sponsored by the South Grand Lake Lions. Three Veterans will receive a paver in the Veterans Honor Plaza and three will receive a brick. The winning applications will be read aloud and the winners announced.

At the close of the program every name of every Veteran honored in the Plaza will be read aloud which is our way of making sure that their service and sacrifice is never forgotten. Guest that which to honor their loved ones are given candles to place on their names in the Plaza as Taps is played.

Please make plans to join us as we honor all you served this great nation.
