About the Calf Fry
The Calf Fry Festival, featuring the delicacy of ranch culture, is gearing up to feed and entertain the crowds who will flock to this Northeastern Oklahoma town on Saturday, June 2. The festivities and cook-offs take place at the Craig County Fairgrounds, just south of I-44 in Vinita. Sponsored by the Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce, the festival’s highlight is the calf fry cooking competition. Other cook-offs include cowboy beans, cowboy bread, and cobblers. “We have 15 cooking teams, so be sure to arrive early to cast your vote for the ‘People’s Choice Award”.
Visitors interested in more than local food can enjoy entertainment ranging from crafts, cowboy games, and kids game, or maybe you would like to enter our talent contest. See our website for more information www.vinita.com
The Calf Fry Festival was started in 1979 by rancher/banker Jim Shelton, veterinarian Dr. John Myers, and insurance agent Larry Green. Over the years, it has continued to grow and attract visitors. “Whether you call it a calf fry or a mountain oyster, you won’t want to visit Northeast Oklahoma in June without stopping by the 37th Annual Calf Fry Festival & Cook-Off,” General admission is free, and gates open at 11 a.m. Tasting admission is $10 at the gate, tasting begins at 12 noon, and runs until the fries are gone.
