South Grand Lake Chamber Bootlegger’s Ball Set for This Saturday Night

The Bootlegger’s Ball, the South Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s first major event of the year, is set for this Saturday night, April 2nd, at the Cherokee Yacht Club on Duck Creek. The theme of the ball is a salute to those visionaries responsible for the idea of the Pensacola Dam to create Grand Lake and the construction workers who made it a reality. Dress from those rough and tumble times of the late thirties and forties are encouraged.

The ladies adorned flapper dresses, men were found in their bib overalls and during this time of prohibition in Oklahoma, the construction workers created their brew of choice with stills hidden away on places like Whiskey Point near Disney. Join us in taking part in the 76th year of operation of the Pensacola Dam, which created Oklahoma’s premiere lake and learn some history from days gone by this Saturday night, April 2nd, with the fun getting underway at 6:00pm.

The event will feature a live jazz band from the era, gaming tables, play money of course, provided by Casino Night of Tulsa, a silent & live auction, an optional buffet for $20 featuring smoked carved Prime Rib or Alfredo Pasta complete with all the trimmings and desert.

Silent Auction Items to Feature a Text Twist

The event will feature numerous silent auction items, including rounds of golf at both Patricia Island and Shangri-La Golf Clubs, dinners for two at various area restaurants, multiple casino stay & play packages, vintage Pensacola Dam construction photos, a wakeboard without lesions from Bob Hart and much, much more.

Text-to-Bid will be a new feature for the silent auction items as each item will have an associated phone number to text a bid to. The software utilized will keep you informed, via text of course, of the current bid and cut-off time…nothing too techie for Grand Lake.

Live Auction Items Include

A Napa Valley Backroads & Railways Package, three nights stay in Napa Valley, six consecutive hours of chauffeured luxury sedan service, three hour gourmet dinner for two on the Napa Valley Wine Train, airfare for two to San Francisco or Oakland and Winspire booking and concierge service.

Thunder Game Tickets and stay in the Courtyard Marriott Hotel for the last game of Laker’s star Kobe Bryant’s career on April 11th in OKC.

Oklahoma State University Football Tickets for Two in the Club Level, which includes a pre-game meal selected from five food stations, all the soft drinks a person can handle and a cash bar. Plus an autographed football from coach Mike Gundy for good measure.

A Floating Mat from floatingmats.com from Jay Rogers

Three bottles of Cobalt Wine donated by Pack & Jill St. Clair

A day on the Water provided by Dave Bendel, which included breakfast at Arrowhead Yacht Club and a full day aboard one of the Bendel fleet of Boston Whalers.

A Wakeboard and lessons compliments of Jerry Cookson and Cedar Port Marina

A Special Thanks to the Cherokee Casino, The Bendel Family and All our Sponsors

This year’s event couldn’t be accomplished without our very generous sponsors and supporters. The Bendel Family, which has owned the property know as Whiskey Point by the construction workers, are our partners in this year’s event. The Cherokee Casino is our name and corporate sponsor, whom we hope will initiate a long-standing relationship with the tribe and their new facility near Grove.

Other sponsors, who the event would not be possible without includes the Grand River Dam Authority, Laundry Express and Joyce & Dandy Risman, Dick Lanes of Grand Lake, MarineMax of Grand Lake. The Grand Laker Newspaper, Grand Lake News Online, Re/Max Grand Lake, Bank of Grove, Roberts Auto Group, Stepping Out Designs, Pine Lodge, Cherokee Yacht Club and Core Productions.

The event is open to the public. Tickets are $25 each (not including the optional buffet which is $20) and can be purchased now at GrandLakeAreaChamber.org or call 918-782-3214 and get the password. The ball will begin at 6:30 PM at Cherokee Yacht Club, 33152 Browning Lane, Cleora, OK.
