Fifth Annual 5K Sunset Dam Run/Walk Racing on Grand Lake This Saturday

Hosted by the Cherokee Nation WINGS Program, the fifth annual 5k Sunset Dam Run/Walk will be bringing Grand Lake runners — and walkers — to the Pensacola Dam this weekend.

Both races will start at Cherokee State (or Summerside) Park in Disney by the dam on Saturday, Sept. 23. Registration will be available at the shelter.

Registration will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday fees for the Kids Fun Run, including t-shirts, will be $15. Registration for the 5K participants, also including t-shirts, will be $25.

Early registration will also be available by visiting www.runsignup.com/sunsetdam5k. By doing so, those interested in participating in this fun event will be able to save some money. Early registration prices for the Fun Run will be $10, and the 5K will be $20.

The Kids Fun Run will begin at 4:30 p.m., and the adult run begins at 5 p.m.

The 5K run will start in Disney, go across Pensacola Dam, and back to Lakeside Park in Disney.

All proceeds from this event will benefit Grand Lake Fireworks Inc. for the 2018 Fourth of July fireworks display. Grand Lake Fireworks Inc. is a nonprofit corporation. The money used for the event is accumulated all year long through fundraisers, such as the Sunset Dam Run, and donations.

Timing will be provided by Tatur Racing (Tulsa Area Trail & Ultra Runners).

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age bracket in the 5K only.

This healthy and scenic fundraiser is one of the many fundraisers that benefits one of Grand Lake’s best Fourth of July firework displays, so be sure to come on down and make next year even better than the last.
