Grand Lake Area To Celebrate Fourth of July with Fireworks and Fun

Nothing is as iconically American as the Fourth of July. Towns and communities throughout the Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees area will be celebrating the Fourth of July with a myriad of events this year.

The options are almost limitless in and around Grand Lake when it comes to getting your patriotic pride on. The family-fun events planned range from watermelon feeds and hot dog-eating contests to enjoying a night with friends and family under a booming sky filled with fireworks.

Local Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks displays are a wonderful way to celebrate our country’s Independence Day. We hope our up-to-date list of local 2017 shows inspires you and your family to take a trip out and experience the patriotic celebrations above Grand Lake.

 

Friday, June 30

The Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the Bob McSpadden Annual Fireworks Friday, June 30, on the Vinita High School football field, off Hope Road and Ashland Street. The gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the fireworks show will begin at dark.

The Independence Day celebration will include a fire truck with sprinkler hose and bounce house for the kids. The Cub Scouts will hold a flag ceremony and lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

There also be plenty of food and drinks on hand, including a Kona Ice truck and Italian Ice truck, Maw and Paw kettle corn and dipped cheesecake. In addition, the football boys will have hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks for sale.

 

The Wyandotte Nation will be hosting its annual fireworks display at the Pow-Wow grounds Friday, June 30. The evening will include live music, vendors and an amazing fireworks display.

The public is invited to attend this free event. Parking is also free.

The band will start playing at 7 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at dark.

Organizers ask that personal fireworks be left at home. Coolers are allowed for soft drinks, but no open fires, grills, alcohol or firearms are allowed.

The Pow-Wow grounds are located on East Highway 60, in Wyandotte.

Bring your chairs and be prepared to be entertained.

 

Saturday, July 1

Grand Lake Fireworks, Inc. presents the sixth annual Cliff Elliot Memorial Fireworks Show in Disney Saturday, July 1.

Come out and join the fun between the Pensacola spillways on Highway 28, in Disney.

The fireworks display will kick off at 9:30 p.m. A live broadcast will also be broadcast on Grove’s own 99.3 FM KGVE.

Everyone is welcome. So load up the kids, the ice chest and the lawn chairs and head out to enjoy the fun.

 

The annual fireworks show at Pryor’s Horse Creek Resort will fill the skies above Horse Creek Saturday, July 1.

The fireworks show is a Horse Creek tradition.

“We have been doing it forever, about 25 years or so,” Pryor said. “When we started, it was just small for the people in the park. We’ve been doing a big show for 15 years.”

The fireworks show is open to guests at the resort and the public by water. According to Tyler Pryor, the fireworks are best viewed directly to the east of the iron unfinished bridge.

The fireworks show begins at at dark, around 9:30 p.m. or so.

 

The 50th annual Huckleberry Festival kicks off this year at 42162 Highway 127 in the RFC Event Center. Festivities will take place over the course of Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1.

Jay’s Main Street will be hosting a parade, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 1. The RFC Event Center will have live entertainment later that night with a grand finale of the Huckleberry Festival fireworks display at 9 p.m., at the RFC main outdoor stage.

 

Sunday, July 2

The Landings Marina will host its annual Independence Day celebration and fireworks show, Sunday, July 2, at the Grand Lake Regional Airport on Monkey Island.

From 11 .m. to 7 p.m., the fun will include an air show, car show and inflatables for kids to enjoy.

Paul Staten, owner of The Landings Marina, invites car owners to bring out their antique cars, classics, hot rods and more and “show ’em off”. In addition to the car show, Staten expects there will be some drag racing going on during the event again this year.

The George Brothers Band will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. At dusk, a high-speed flyover of a Korean-era jet will take place, Staten said.

The fireworks display will be shot off on the airstrip at dark.

Parking is available across the road from the Landings Market and Grill, at 56551 E. Highway 125, on Monkey Island.

 

The second annual Afton Independence Day celebration will be Sunday, July 2. Sponsored by the Afton Community Enhancement Society (ACES), the evening of fun starts at 7 p.m., and will include free games for kids, a performance by country band, Whiskey Poet Society, and vendor booths.

There also will be food booths offering a variety of tasty treats, including barbecue, kettle corn, cotton candy and more. Several organizations will also hold bake sales during the event.

A professional fireworks show will begin at dark.

ACES organizers invite the public to bring chairs or blankets and come enjoy the evening with friends and family.

The Afton Independence Day celebration will take place at a new location this year. It will be across from Victor Ranch at the intersection of 520 and 230 roads.

 

Monday, July 3

Har-Ber Village Museum will present its annual Independence Day (Fun for Families) Celebration from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, July 3.

The two-hour fun family event will feature lawn games, ice cream and a Kids’ Parade.

The lawn games will include gunny sack races, spoon and egg relay races, water balloon races, croquet, old-fashioned hoops and more. While the kids are busy racing, volunteers will be cranking homemade ice cream. The special red, white and blue firecracker ice cream will be served after the activities.

Children are invited to bring their bikes, trikes, wagons and scooters to decorate and participate in the Kids’ Parade. Decorations will be provided.

The Kids’ Parade will march up Main Street in the Village, ending at the gazebo, where everyone will recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Grove’s own Broadway star Ron Young will perform the “The Star-Spangled Banner”.

All activities are free with regular admission to the museum, which is is $10 for adults, $7.50 for seniors 62-plus, $5 for children 6-13, free for children under 6 and HBVM members.

The fee for the celebration alone is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

To participate in all of the scheduled activities, organizers recommend arriving by 10 a.m.

The City of Grove annual July 3rd Celebration will be held at Wolf Creek Park Monday, July 3.

The Grove firefighters will be back at it again this year, representing the city of Grove in this outstanding fireworks display over Wolf Creek Park.

Free watermelon will once again be served by the Grove firefighters. The Southern Drag Boat Association will also have one of its drag boats on display.

Free shuttles will be available to the public to and from Wolf Creek Park. The festivities start at 6 p.m., and the fireworks display kicks off at dark.

Come by land or by Grand. Bring the whole family, and don’t miss one of the biggest displays on Grand Lake.

Wolf Creek Park is located on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees at 963 North 16th St., in Grove.

 

Strap in for one of the most extravagant displays over Grand Lake — the Duck Creek fireworks show.

The Duck Creek fireworks display will, once again, cap off an exciting show this year.

This year’s festivities will kick off at 4 p.m. Monday, July 3, when the War Birds arrive at the South Grand Lake Airport, in Ketchum, where they will be open to the public for viewing and touching.

The Grand Entry Show will conducted by the War Birds at 7 p.m., followed by an F-16 flyover by the United States Air Force.

At 9:30 p.m., the anticipated fireworks show begins.

Tuesday, July 4

Jay’s fireworks display will take place at the RFC Event Center on Tuesday, July 4, starting at 8 p.m.

Be sure to bring the whole family out for a night under the lights in the Huckleberry Capital of the World.

 

Miami’s Fourth of July celebration, Tuesday, July 4, will include activities and games for kids, free hot dogs, live music and a Firework Extravaganza.

Registration for the kids’ games is at 5 p.m. A turtle derby starts at 5:30 p.m. with various other games, including a Sonic hot dog-eating contest, getting under way at 6 p.m.

Free hot dogs will be served beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing as long as the hot dogs last.

In addition, there will be a number of food vendors and concessions, including snow cones and ice cream, available, guaranteeing there will be plenty to eat and drink during the festivities.

The Scotty B Band will perform during the evening. The festivities will conclude at dark with the Firework Extravaganza, a fireworks display sponsored by the City of Miami.

The celebration and fireworks will be held at Riverview Park, 820 S. Main St., in Miami.

 

Rodeo Miami, which begins Monday, July 3, will have a special Military Appreciation Night Tuesday, July 4. All veterans will be honored during the performance. In addition, rodeo fans on Tuesday will also get to enjoy the fireworks display at Riverview Park.

The rodeo event will be held at the Miami Fairgrounds, 1129 E. Street S.W., in Miami. Gates open at 5 p.m.

The Spavinaw Fourth of July parade and fireworks show will be Tuesday, July 4.

The fun gets started with a parade at 1 p.m. The traditional, small-town parade will feature mini cars, police cars, fire trucks, decorated golf carts and bicycles, kids walking and more.

The parade begins at the Spavinaw Creek Event Center, 400 W. Lake St., and will travel down Main Street to the post office, where it will circle around and come back down Main Street, ending at the event center.

The fun continues Tuesday evening with a fireworks show south of the ballpark. The fireworks show will begin after dark.
