‘Lake Life Is Grand’ Is Theme of GLOC Guild's 2017 Quilt Show

The Grand Lake O' the Cherokees Quilt Guild has created a special quilt for this year's show based on the theme "Lake Life Is Grand." One lucky ticket holder will be awarded the quilt at the end of the quilt show.

With the dogs days of summer upon us, you’re probably looking for an activity that takes place indoors.

The Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees Quilt Guild’s 2017 Quilt Show, Friday, July 21, and Saturday, July 22, offers a nice change of pace and will bring you in out of the heat.

Held in the air-conditioned comfort of the Grove Civic Center, the quilt show is the place to be for anyone who loves quilts and quilting. The show’s theme is, appropriately, “Lake Life is Grand.”

More than 200 quilts are expected to be on display during the show.

In addition to the judged quilt show, highlights of the event will include professional quilt appraisals, educational classes, demonstrations. antique quilt bed turnings and door prizes.

Scheduled throughout the two days, the demonstrations will cover a wide range of topics, including Getting Quilts Ready for Your Longarmer, Making Miniatures Easy, Gadgets, Appliquick Tools, DIY - Keeping Your Sewing Machine Humming, Quilting for Dummies, Pillowcase Making, New Tools on the Market, Hexagon Folded Trivet, Disappearing Four Patch and Stitchin’ Circles.

The demonstrations and bed turnings are free with no-preregistration required.

Members of the guild were given the challenge to create a block with a lake theme to be included in a special quilt. Each block had to convey the quilt show’s theme, “Lake Life Is Grand.” The blocks were used to create a one-of-a-kind quilt that will be awarded to one lucky ticket holder at the end of the show.

Tickets for the quilt are available from any GLOC Quilt Guild member and during the show. The winner will be announced at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 22.

Do you love quilting and shopping? You can combine both at the vendor mall, guild boutique, silent auction and bookstore.

There will also be a man cave lounge for spouses who might need a break from all the quilting fun and an on-site concession area.

This will be the guild’s 38th quilt show, and it takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 21, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 22.

Admission to the show is $6 with no charge for children under the age os 12. A group rate of $5 person is available for groups of 10 or more.

The biennial quilt show is the major fundraiser for the guild.
