Backpack Program

Twenty-two million children receive free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program. One in four children in Oklahoma lives in a household that is struggling to put food on the table.

Through the Backpack Program children receive a backpack full of kid-friendly, non-perishable and nutritious food on Friday to sustain them over weekends and school holidays.

Both Grove and Jay have Backpack programs. The Grove Rotary Club recently presented each program a $5,000 donation.

Kristi Wallace, chair of the Grove Rotary Charitable Contributions Committee, presented a $5,000 donation to Mike Johnston for the Grove Backpack program.

Cassie Hampton represented the Jay Backpack program and accepted a $5,000 check from Kristi Wallace on behalf of the Grove Rotary Club.

The grants are two of 47 grants totaling $88,970.48 that were presented by the Grove Rotary Club for projects in the Grand Lake area.
