50 Studebaker by Jewels From The Word

50 STUDEBAKER

A man contacted me a while back by email asking to use a photo of a 1950 Studebaker I have posted on my website as the basis of a water-color painting. He has painted other old vehicles, that "have finished their days on the road and now only serve to bring back memories," according to him.

I drove it for a couple of years, then my brother who was still in high school inherited the '50 Studebaker. When he bought his own car--seems like it was a bright red 1959 Chevy Impala--he parked the Studebaker on the farm.

The Studebaker has a "bullet nose" on both ends, so I joked about never knowing whether I came coming or going. It was originally dark green, but my uncle painted it yellow with a paint brush. He had just enough paint for two coats of paint, except for the trunk lid, which remained pea green. I was embarrassed at first to drive it, but hey, it sure beat walking.

Recently while tearing down an old garage, I came upon some hubcaps, a trunk latch, and a headlight rim from the Studebaker. I sold them on eBay. While that 7-day auction was going on, I did research on the Internet about '50 Studebakers and discovered that model was a radical change from car designs of the past.

It is always fun to look back and reminisce about the past. Those were the good old days.

No, wait! These are the good old days. I drive a vehicle which cost more than my first house. The poorest family in the U.S. is richer than the average person in other countries. We have indoor toilets and running water, central air and heat.

In these days God has great things in store for His people. In Isaiah 43:18-19, God tells us, "Do not remember the former things nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

Don't look back. Find the new thing God wants to do in your life. Search for the "road in the wilderness" and the "river in the desert."

And remember, These are the good old days."
