Purpose of Position
This is an unclassified (exempt) senior level position performing system operation duties for the Transmission System Operation Department of the Grand River Dam Authority as required by SPP, NERC and FERC requirements to maintain the reliability of the Bulk Electric System.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Asst. Supt. of Transmission System Operations or designated supervisor.



SUPERVISED PERSONNEL: This position will supervise/train subordinate employees and serve as a lead worker.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Shall have the responsibility and authority to implement real-time actions that ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System, up to and including the shedding of firm load
Shall be responsible for complying with the NERC reliability standards.
Regulate balancing area; voltage, frequency, and transmission line loading by Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer.
Reconciles energy accounting and inadvertent interchange with other balancing authorities at regular intervals.
Calculates system loads and next-day forecast and conducts contingency analysis to avoid exceeding system operating limits.
Supervises the restoration of service following an interruption through SCADA and manual switching of equipment by dispatching generation and/or transmission field personnel to remote switching stations to isolate damaged lines or equipment.
Review, coordinate and arrange the clearance and restoration of high voltage transmission lines, substations, transformers, and generation units through switching procedures while ensuring the safety of field personnel and the reliability of the Bulk Electric System.
Monitors system alarms through SCADA, TSM-8000, and Hydro Events Loggers and responds accordingly.
The ability to work rotating 12 hour shifts including holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an electrical field from an accredited college or university and/or equivalent Transmission System Operations experience.


SPECIAL CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS, LICENSES REQUIRED:

Must have or the ability to obtain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
Current NERC certification as a Balancing, Interchange & Transmission Operator or a Reliability Coordinator.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

The knowledge of basic electrical generation, transmission and distribution practices, principles and theory, as well as fundamental energy marketing accounting practices.
The ability to operate SCADA computer equipment related to the operation of a NERC-Certified Energy Control Center.
The ability to maintain the necessary NERC certification
Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with Excel and Word.
Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

The ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts and be willing to travel as required.
Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail.
Must be capable of performing job duties under stressful situations.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS & SAFETY CONCERNS:

Work is usually performed in an office environment with occasional outdoor fieldtrips for training and acquiring electrical system knowledge.


JOB LOCATION:

Work is performed primarily at the Kerr Energy Control Center near Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
