Back 2 School Bash Planned to Help Low-Income Families in Craig County

Summer has flown by and it’s time for parents and kids to start getting ready to go back to school.

The Craig County Christian community, Grand Nation Inc. and local businesses are teaming up to help low-income families in Craig County prepare for school by throwing a Back 2 School Bash.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, Craig County students from Pre-K through 12th grade are invited to come be a part of this fun and helpful event at the Craig County Fairgrounds.

The Back 2 School Bash will include lots of free giveaways, including backpacks, school supplies and even brand new shoes and socks for every student who needs them.

Local hairstylists will be giving students free haircuts. They will provide as many haircuts as time allows during the bash.

There will also be games, inflatables, face and nail painting, as well as lots of other activities.

And, what’s a bash without food? Cotton candy, hot dogs, chips and bottled water will all be available for attendees of the Back 2 School Bash.

Organizers are planning on 600 students attending the Back 2 School Bash. Everything will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.

All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The Craig County Christian community sponsoring the Back 2 School Bash includes Grand Nation Inc., New Life Foursquare Church, Emmanuel Church, Family Praise Center, Isaiah 58, Alive Church, Church of Christ, Vinita, Pilgrim Presbyterian, St. John's Episcopal Church, Bunker Hill Baptist, Log Cabin Ministries, Vineyard Christian Center, First Christian Church, Vinita, First United Methodist, Vinita, First Southern Baptist, Langley and First Baptist Church, Vinita.

The Craig County Fairgrounds are located at 915 E. Apperson Road in Vinita.

Back to School Block Party Planned

For students in Grove, the First United Methodist Church of Grove is hosting a Back to School Block Party on Sunday, Aug. 13.

Free and open to the community, the block party will include bounce houses, music, free haircuts for students, carnival games, giveaways, a dunk tank, food and more. There will be gifts for the first 150 kids as well.

The Back to School Block Party will be from 3 to 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Grove, at 1005 Leisure Road.
