Pickleball Charity Challenge Saturday Offers Fun While Supporting a Great Cause

Hey, y’all … It’s pickleball!

Benefiting Special Olympics through Home of Hope, this year’s annual Mary Moore Charity Event is expanding to include a pickleball tournament this Saturday, Oct. 29.

With the McCorkle Family Foundation as presenting sponsor, the 2022 Pickleball Charity Challenge will be held at The Racquet Club and The Anchor at Shangri-La on Monkey Island.

Pickleball, a hybrid mix of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, has been around since the 1960s and has become a popular sport among people of all ages. According to those who calculate such things, pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States.

With the popularity of pickleball on the rise around Grand Lake, organizers of the Mary Moore Charity Event thought a pickleball tournament would be a great way for area pickleballers to have fun while supporting a great cause.

The 2022 Pickleball Charity Challenge is the newest addition to the Mary Moore Charity Golf Tournament, a long-standing event held every year on Monkey Island to support Special Olympics through Home of Hope. Since 2006, the Mary Moore Charity Event Golf Tournament has raised more than $265,000 for Special Olympics.

The 16th annual golf tournament was held this past August and featured a four-person scramble tournament and silent auction. See the 2022 winners and tournament players here.

The format of the 2022 Pickleball Charity Challenge will be open teams with A and B Brackets. So grab a partner and sign up today. Each team is guaranteed to play three games, win or lose. “Third” serves are available.

To get a little help on your side of the net, bid on Levi Kerr, assistant director at Racquet Club pro to be your partner for the first game.

Team entry fee is $150 and includes court fees, gift bags, prizes and drawings, snacks and refreshments. Check in and warm up will start at 7:45 a.m. with the games beginning at 8:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded at 12:30 p.m.
