Looking back on GRDA’s 2022: Part 4

This week we wrap up our look back at GRDA’s 2022 with some of the highlights from the year’s fourth quarter …

October: The first full week is always a special time around GRDA as it joins with its municipal customer communities and 2,000 other publicly owned utilities to recognize National Public Power Week. The week is a great time to share the many benefits of public power and celebrate the men and women who keep the power flowing to their hometowns every day.

Also in October, GRDA honored the legacy of former Assistant General Manager of Thermal Generation Jack Marcy. In 1979, Marcy came to GRDA to oversee the construction of the coal generators, Units 1 and 2. His efforts helped to keep the projects on-time and under budget. He would go on to spend 20 years with GRDA, leading the Authority’s thermal generation operations. At the October board meeting, the Unit 2 control room was named in his honor.

November: By November, the new GRDA Administrative Center was complete, and most employees had finished moving into the new space. On November 9, a special open house was held as guests had a chance to see the new facility up-close. The following week, the new facility also played host to the annual GRDA customer meetings as large crowds on back-to-back days had the opportunity to receive updates from GRDA management and other guest speakers.

December: With December’s arrival, the long and busy year began to wind down for much of Team GRDA. However, the GRDA Police Department stayed active, by helping celebrate the holiday season. Officers took part in over 30 holiday parades in GRDA customer communities and across the service area.

Milestone anniversaries, new facilities, reliability recognition, were all highlights during the year but ultimately continuing to meet its mission may be what defines 2022 best for GRDA. Thank you to Team GRDA for all they do!

GRDA is Oklahoma’s largest public power electric utility; fully funded by revenues from electric and water sales instead of taxes. Each day, GRDA strives to be an “Oklahoma agency of excellence” by focusing on the 5 E’s: electricity, economic development, environmental stewardship, employees, and efficiency.
