Grove Rotary give nearly $75,000 in grants

The Grove Rotary Club presented grants to 28 community projects totaling nearly $75,000 during last week’s meeting. Rotary Club President Joel McCorkle and Charitable Giving Committee Chairman Christy Wright hold the check.

After a year of fundraising, the Grove Rotary Foundation awarded 28 organizations nearly $75,000 in community grants during its weekly meeting on Wednesday.

Each year the Grove Rotary Club raises funds through projects such as Lobsterfest and a golf tournament to be able to provide for community needs. The grant process requires each group to submit an application which is reviewed by a committee. This year’s Charitable Giving Committee was chaired by Christy Wright and members included Clayton Baker, Phyllis Hudecki, Kelsey Rhine, Louise Templin, Autumn Wilhelm, Charlie Wallace, Ivan Devitt and Karen Waters.

A total of 28 grants were awarded totaling $74,913.77. The grants range from $750 to $7,500. Among those receiving grants were several Grove school projects, Jay Upper Elementary, Boy Scouts, Playmakers, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, Second Chance, and a number of community nonprofit organizations.

Chairperson Christy Wright indicated there may be some other grants provided at a later date. The Grove Rotary Club also presents scholarships to Grove High School seniors as well as to the Northeast Community College Vocational program. They also provide donations to a national effort to provide clean drinking water in undeveloped countries as well as for the eradication of polio.
