Eternal Treasure by Jewels From The Word

When I was a kid, we took dandelion bouquets to our mothers which they graciously received as if they were bouquets of long-stemmed fancy red roses. We took the tiny white blooms from the clover and made them into necklaces that we proudly wore around our necks as though they were strings of the finest pearls.

We took the tiny petals off the baby wild roses, licked them, and stuck them to our fingernails and pretended that we were manicured with French nail polish like the Hollywood movie stars. We pulled the blossoms off the honeysuckle vines and sipped the nectar, just like sipping Coke through a straw at the drugstore counter in the 1950s. We picked pretty flowers and clover to put on our little dinner plates for our pretend dinner, outside under the trees and bushes with our playmates, our dolls, and puppy dogs.

So much of our childhood play revolved around our flowers in the backyard where we played with our best friends. We were playing with weeds & common flowers but we thought they were the best flowers in the world. We were proud to give our mothers dandelion bouquets. We loved to wear white clover necklaces, wild rose manicures, and sip honeysuckle nectar. We thought they were worth a million bucks, but we were playing with weeds.

As grownups, we wear diamonds, gold, and silver. We place a high value on things that come from the earth, out of dirt.

Diamonds, gold, and silver are long-lasting materials, but Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away.” Matthew 24:35. One day this world with the diamonds, gold, and silver will be gone, but His Word is permanent, eternal, and shall never pass away.

Paul told the Corinthians to look for permanent things of lasting value, the unseen things of God’s Word. In II Corinthians 4:18 NIV Paul said, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

Don’t settle for cheap imitations & temporary substitutes. Let God’s Spirit give you the valuable eternal treasures He has reserved for His children.
