Second Chance Pet Rescue Introduces Marissa Clark, Assistant Shelter Director
When you visit Second Chance Pet Rescue, one of the people you are likely to meet is Marissa Clark, Assistant Shelter Director.  She has worked at the local animal rescue since September of 2018.
Originally from Portland, Oregon, Marissa spent her high school years in southwestern Missouri in the small town of Wheaton.  After high school, she earned her CNA certification and was pursuing a nursing degree.  Marissa career was temporarily diverted to a stay-at-home mom with three children - two boys and a girl.  When she was ready to return to the working world, she had changed her mind about her career and decided to be a "nurse for animals".

After working as a supervisory assistant at Hampshire Dog Food Factory in Joplin, Missouri, Marissa met Lysa Boston, who was then Shelter Director for the Joplin Humane Society.  She knew immediately that she had found something she loved to do.  She  became a Medical Technician at the Joplin Humane Society where she obtained training in Heartworm testing and vaccination protocol.
When Lysa became the Shelter Director for Second Chance Pet Rescue, Marissa was offered the opportunity to change jobs as well.  Since coming to Second Chance Pet Rescue in September, Marissa says, "I feel like I am making a difference in each animal that comes through the door.  I am able to do a lot more one-on-one with animals as this shelter does not have the high intake that Joplin has."

Marissa made a difference in the life of a Chihuahua mix, Percy, who came to the shelter.   The little dog was so scared at the shelter that Marissa took him home to foster.  “I got very attached.  We found out his owner was in jail.  Percy had separation anxiety.  I kept him until his owner was able to be reunited with him.  We made sure he was neutered, and then was readopted by his owner.  It was a good feeling to be part of his journey.”

It is a family journey as well to be involved with rescue.  Her youngest boy loves cats and comes to Second Chance Pet Rescue shelter to help socialize them.  While Marissa doesn’t have much free time in her new position, she would love to learn to horseback ride this summer.  In the meantime, she is busy with raising her children and taking care of her own four dogs at home.
Second Chance Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-pofit, no kill animal rescue organization.  It does not receive funding from city, state, or federal government entities or from other national animal rescue organizations.  Tax-deductible financial donations can be mailed to P.O.
