Upcoming Events at Shangri-La September 13-19, 2018

The biggest event of the week is in honor of our fantastic members. Saturday night is the Annual Shangri-La Member Appreciation Party. We’ll start the fun at 6:00 with cocktails, camaraderie, and great Dixieland Jazz and Cajun music from theJambalaya Jazz Band on the south lawn of the resort hotel, adjacent to Doc’s Patio Bar and the Resort Pool. Dinner will be served at approximately 7:00 p.m. – and that will be a fabulous treat of its own! Chef Mike and his crew have been working on week on their plans for a fabulous Cajun Feast topped off with special dessert offerings from Chef Julie. You won’t want to miss this great party Saturday night!

If you haven’t already had your photograph taken for your official Shangri-La Member ID Card, please take a couple of minutes to do that. Just stop by the front desk of the hotel. They’ll snap your photo, provide you with a temporary member ID card – and we’ll get your photo ID card to you in the very near future to facilitate your purchases at the club and resort. Then – on to the party!

Eddy’s Lakeside Bar at Shangri-La Marina is now officially closed for the 2018 season. We realize this is a couple of weeks earlier than our original schedule, but with the return of many of our seasonal staff members to college combined with the uncertainty of September Oklahoma weather, we are working to ensure that we maintain excellent food & beverage service at the remaining Shangri-La venues.

The Ship Store and fuel dock at the marina remain open daily; and you can still boat to dining and drinking opportunities and outdoor dining options at Doc’s Bar & Grill which remains open 365 days a year, serving three meals a day at Shangri-La’s Resort Hotel. Doc’s provides all the outdoor features of Eddy’s – football, baseball & golf coverage and al fresco dining – while still providing the option of quickly moving indoors. Eddy’s will re-open in the Spring, 2019.

It’s a big week on the golf course. Friday afternoon at 5:00 is our weekly “Yellow Rabbit Run” Horse Race. Sign up at the Golf Shop if you would like to play in that popular competition. Saturday morning is the MGA Ryder Cup – and Sunday & Monday the SLWGA will host one of their biggest events of the year, the Grand Lady Tournament.

At the resort this week, we are excited to be hosting a national Shoreline Management Conference sponsored by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Operators like GRDA from all over the country will be discussing improved methods of shoreline management. In addition to FERC, we are also proud to  welcome Hub International, Compsource Mutual Insurance Company, the Leather Helmets Golf Group, Heartland, The Computer Group, Boehringer-Ingelheim, The Gulf Waters RV Resort Group, the Owen/Enterline Wedding, and Ameristar Perimeter Security.

Chef Mike and his culinary crew have a very special Sunday Brunch line-up for the Summit Restaurant this week (10:00-2:00. This week’s special offerings include BLT Benedict, Apple Cinnamon French Toast, Chicken N Biscuit, and a Denver Omelet. As another option, Doc’s Bar & Grill offers a weekend Breakfast Buffet from 7:00 a.m.-Noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

Doc’s Bar & Grill is Grand Lake’s favorite spot for watching sporting events. We’ll have all your favorite NFL and College action, including OU, OSU and Tulsa games, and NASCAR racing. Doc’s is open daily for three meals, and also offers Pizza Delivery Service on Monkey Island Thursday-Monday. There is a phone number dedicated exclusively to that service. If you live on the Island, just call 918-257-7777 and place your order. We’ll bring it right to your door.
