July 15 Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum

Wasn’t last weekend beautiful? Between the Thursday night shrimp boil, Friday afternoon music at the Pub, Friday night karaoke with my besties, Saturday boating, Saturday night party with my Island buds, Sunday afternoon deck drinking, and my usual Sunday night chicken & beverages, I barely had time to sleep! Plus, I’m getting worried that a couple of my pals are getting to the age they can’t handle their alcohol. They dropped me twice carrying me to the car Saturday night!

*****

The weekend weather ahead looks great – and it’s a good thing because there is so much happening – and company’s coming. There’s the Bobber Drop, Aquapalooza, and concerts & shows both on-the-water and off-the-water, plus a visit by Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell and legislators from throughout the State of Oklahoma who are coming for their annual Legislative Grand Lake Family Getaway to see firsthand all that Grand Lake has to offer. Pretty cool. We’ve got lots to show ‘em! Maybe they’ll realize why Grand Lake has so much more to offer than other lakes and put an end once and for all to the annual goofy idea of selling GRDA. Just stop it!

If you’re planning your Grand Lake event-watching and haven’t heard the news, yet – the GLOC Performance Boat Challenge originally scheduled for next week has been canceled. Don’t worry. There are plenty of other things to do.

Did you see where police in Guthrie, Oklahoma stopped Stephen Jennings because he had expired tags on his car? To his credit, he told the officers right up front that he had a gun in the console. After running his license plate, it turns out the car was stolen, so they looked a little further. That’s when they found the Kentucky Deluxe Whiskey, a live rattlesnake in a terrarium, and….oh, yeah, a canister of radioactive powdered uranium! Ironically, he’s not in trouble for the uranium yet, because nobody can figure out what he was planning to do with it. What could possibly go wrong, right? I guess the moral of the story is: if you’re going to carry around open whiskey, a gun, a live rattlesnake and uranium, make sure the car you steal doesn’t have expired plates.

The weather for the weekend ahead looks fantastic! Light winds, lots of sunshine, highs in the mid-90s and lows in the mid-70s. Get out and have a fabulous time.  Remember, though… wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
