July 22 Random Observations Of The Grand Lake Bum

What an incredible weekend gone by! Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor (and Grand Laker) Matt Pinnell wowed the Grove Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet crowd at Big Shots Thursday night, Grand Lake hit the 750’ level Friday, and Sharky’s celebrated with a big “750 Party!” Saturday morning, crazies mobbed the waters of Grand Lake for the Great Grand Bobber Drop, Shangri-La rolled out their awesome new power-assisted bicycles, boaters floated the afternoon away to awesome music at Aquapalooza,, and Oklahoma legislators enjoyed all that Grand Lake has to offer, topped off with the Annual Oklahoma Legislative Golf Tournament at Shangri-La. Saturday night, I had a fantastic night cruise. For the first time in a while, I felt like the water was totally safe for a cruise in the darkness. What an incredible night and an incredible weekend with perfect summer weather! If you missed it, don’t miss this weekend. Grand Lake is wrapping up the month of July in style with more fun and more perfect weather!

In Shawnee, Brandon Killian was already in jail for brutally beating Jaarric Carolina in a June brawl. While in custody, he told officers he was injured from being “face socked” during the fight. When the officer went to get a camera to photograph the evidence, Killian began punching himself in the face several times. Unfortunately for him, the video cameras were running, gathering a little evidence of their own. Now his charges also include “preparing false evidence and lying to police.” You can’t fix stupid.

Remember when a woman was banned from a Wal-Mart in Wichita Falls, Texas for riding around the parking lot in a store-owned electric cart while drinking wine from a Pringles can? Well, now another Wichita Falls Wal-Mart has banned another customer after a little “creative bargaining.” The woman asked to buy a cake for half price because half of it was missing. Store video showed the first half of the cake was missing because she ate it in the store. Bargain shopping gone wrong.

Have you ever had a meal with someone who didn’t order because they weren’t hungry – then they begin snatching snacks off your plate? In Little Rock, Arkansas, a creative diner has turned that into a menu option. Mama D’s offers a “My Girlfriend Is Not Hungry” item which adds extra fries, chicken wings, or cheese sticks to any order, thereby providing enough extra food to share with a dinner partner who underestimates their hunger. Odd, but true.

DINING & DRINKING BY WATER UPDATE: Shangri-La is hosting open-to-the-public Shrimp Boils and Karaoke every Thursday night from 6:00-9:00 in “The Cave” on the patio at Doc’s Bar & Grill with karaoke featuring Jason Morgan. Harbors View Marina hosts Shrimp Boils on Friday evenings and all-you-can-eat Fajitas Night Saturday.

RANDY KREHBIEL’S RANDOM FACTOID OF THE WEEK: I would just point out that Oklahoma once sent to Congress a certifiably insane man (Manuel Herrick) who, among other things, conducted a beauty pageant in Washington to find a wife (he reneged). And, arguably, he was not the worst congressman we've ever had.

*****

BEST FACEBOOK POST OF THE WEEK: I have a bumper sticker that says, “Honk if you think I’m sexy.” Then I just sit at green lights until I feel better about myself.

*****

MORE RESULTS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE STUDY: The word “queue” is ironic. It’s just “q” with a bunch of silent letters waiting in line.

*****

BEST SIGN SEEN THIS WEEK: Growing your own tomatoes is the best way to devote three months of your life to saving two bucks.

*****

BEST PUN OF THE WEEK: Two little boys were at a wedding when one leaned over to the other and asked, “How many wives can a man have?” His friend answered, “Sixteen…four better, four worse, four richer, four poorer.”

*****

TWEET OF THE WEEK: The Lysol commercial said to disinfect the things I touch most. I have a feeling this is going to burn.

*****

OBSERVATION OF THE WEEK: Another bottle emptied with no genie at the bottom. I’ll keep trying.

*****

EXERCISE TIP OF THE WEEK: If a cookie falls on the floor and you pick it up…that’s a squat, right?

*****

FEEL-OLD MOMENTS OF THE WEEK: I saw a great feature on ZZ Top on “CBS Sunday Morning.” I can’t believe that group is celebrating 50 years of performing together – with the same members of the band. In a similar vein, A new documentary is being released detailing the ups and downs of the life of rock music icon David Crosby (The Byrds – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young). He’s 77 years old.

The weather for the weekend ahead looks terrific again this week! Light winds, lots of sunshine, highs around 90 and lows around 70. Get out and have a fabulous time.  Remember, though… wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
