June 20 Random Observations Of The Grand Lake Bum

I hope you enjoyed all the fabulous weather and multiple entertainment options around the lake for the long Father’s Day/Juneteenth holiday weekend. We have to wait another week before we have another three-day weekend!

*****

Ironically, before we celebrate America’s freedom on July 4, we’ll have election day in Oklahoma to see if we still get to keep it. Primary Election Day in Oklahoma is June 28; and the biggest contests are in Republican Primaries – two U.S. Senate Races, Congressional races, Governor, Attorney General, State Superintendent, Labor Commissioner, Corporation Commissioner, State Auditor, and State Treasurer are the biggest attention-getters. Locally, we also have races for County Sheriff and District Attorney – and several state legislative races, and some school board slots. There is also one “County Question” in Delaware County. There are only two things you need to know about the County Question: 1) It does not increase taxes; and 2) It earmarks money to improve roads. If you want to improve roads, vote yes.

*****

If I may give a bit of election advice, it’s this: there are 14 Republican candidates for the open 2nd District Congressional seat (which includes Grand Lake); and 13 for the open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Senator Jim Inhofe (which includes the entire state). The other races are equally important to our future, and they undoubtedly all include lots of candidates many voters have never heard of. Please do me one of two favors: 1) Carefully research the positions of each candidate for each office; or 2) Don’t vote. I really don’t want the future of our county, state, and nation decided by people who pick some sort of familiar-sounding name, or just throw darts to select the candidates who will get their votes. There! End of rant. I’ll get off my soap box now.

Truth is stranger than fiction. A Missouri appellate court has ordered GEICO to pay $5.2 million to a woman who contracted a sexually transmitted disease while having sex in a car insured by GEICO. I feel a new trend coming on.
