Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum May 20

Grand Lakers dealt with a little high water and a bit of debris, but it seems to be behind us for the most part coming into the holiday weekend. Enjoy!

If you don’t make any other major event this weekend, show up for the Grand Opening of the “Legacy of Liberty WW II Memorial Park” at Shangri-La Resort Friday morning at 10:00. If you can’t make that event, check out the park at your leisure. It’s absolutely incredible! It’s located adjacent to The Battlefield Par 3 golf course, just across the highway from Grand Lake Regional Airport on Monkey Island. You can’t miss it. And you shouldn’t!

The iconic Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas is closing this month after 34 years. Soon, it will be torn down with no evidence that it ever really existed. Maybe it was just…a Mirage!

Age doesn’t matter. CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King is on the cover of the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. She’s 69 years old.

It’s a holiday weekend, so I know we have a lot of folks coming in for the weekend who may not be familiar with my official Grand Lake Bum Holiday Rules of Behavior, so here they are again: No fighting, no puking, no hitting on someone else’s date, no griping at over-worked servers and bartenders, no bragging about how much money you have (or your parents have), no drunk driving, no public nudity (private nudity is okay), no yelling, no discussion of religion - and especially no politics!

As with all holiday weekends, you may have a little longer wait for a seat, a drink, or some food. Be nice to everyone who is working so you can play. Everyone is always understaffed for the influx of holiday weekend visitors. If everybody who’s coming to the lake over the holiday weekend would come every weekend, all the businesses could staff up for those giant crowds. If I get my drink before you do, it’s because I’m there every day all year long. Bartenders already know what I want – and they know I’ll be sitting on the same stool in December. So, maybe you should buy a house and a boat while you’re here and come join us for the party all year!

GRAND LAKE BUM SHOUT-OUTS: Congratulations to Shangri-La Resort for being named one of Golf Week Magazine’s Top Resort Golf Courses in the country. Weatherwise, it’s a holiday weekend, so OF COURSE, forecasters put a “chance of showers” in every day’s forecast. Don’t worry about it. We’ll have sun and light winds for the most part with high temperatures in the mid-80s and lows around 70 degrees. Nice! There’s a lot happening almost everywhere you look this weekend, so get out there and have some fun! Remember, though, wherever you decide to party this holiday weekend, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It might be me!
