September 5 Random Observations Of The Grand Lake Bum

The last big summer holiday weekend is in the books – and the last big on-the-water concert of the year is in the rearview mirror, as well. Weather was perfect, the bands were fabulous, and the crowd was HUGE for the big two-day Redneck Raft Out concert in Check-In Bay Saturday & Sunday. Event organizers Jeff & Amanda Silvers did a fabulous job putting together such an incredible event, but they’re planning a move to the north country. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if that was the last RRO or not.

We’re closing in on the wrap-up of the summer season. Sadly, we have seen our last sunset of the year at 8:00 p.m. or later. Our next 8:00 p.m. sunset won’t happen until April 12. The official beginning of the Fall season is just two weeks away. There is a silver lining, though. That means the very best boating season of the year has arrived. The weather is a little cooler, the lake isn’t as busy, the water is flat, the scenery is beautiful – and gets a little prettier every week from now until the end of October. Enjoy!

Depending on the size of your boat, your fall boating may not include passage under the Bernice Bridge in Horse Creek. The 40-foot high center section will be closed for two months to allow construction workers to install the final piers in the center section of the new bridge. If your boat is small enough, you may still be able to get under the other sections of the bridge, but the high clearance center section is now closed for construction. Be careful out there.

By the way, if you’re following the golf battle between the PGA and LIV, there’s big news. Greg Norman now says LIV players can wear shorts! Well, there you have it. This changes everything!

*****

Boating and golf aren’t the only perfect entertainment options at Grand Lake for this time of year, though. It’s football season! I learned the hard way that, if you want to watch your favorite team on those gigantic video walls at The Anchor Sports Bar at Shangri-La, you need to get there before kick-off. By the way…just when you thought it couldn’t get any better for football at The Anchor, they now offer complimentary snacks and $3 well drinks on game day at The Anchor Sports Bar to kick off my own personal favorite season. Happy drinking season!
