September 9 Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum

What a fabulous weekend gone by on Grand Lake. Friday, I got to see a parade of classic boats as the folks here for the Mahogany & Chrome Classic Boat Show took a little cruise to lunch at Doc’s at Shangri-La. The docks looked like a 1960’s flashback photo. The same was true Saturday when they all lined up at Arrowhead Yacht Club for the annual show. Those old classics are absolutely amazing – but not as amazing as the guys & gals who keep them looking that way!

You got the word that Grand Lake’s summer season has officially been extended through October 31, right? A herd of my Monkey Island pals made personal watercraft run from the Island up Elk River Sunday. #bestboatingoftheyear

There has been plenty of controversy about Wal-Mart and their decision to stop selling ammunition. I dunno. It makes sense to me. I’ve said for many years that bullet control would be a lot more efficient than gun control. After all…guns don’t kill people. Bullets kill people.

Cyber attack thieves are getting downright brazen. The Oklahoma Law Enforcement Retirement System was recently the victim of cyber thieves who stole $4.2 million from the account. We’ll wait to see if the thieves were really gutsy or really stupid when they decided to pick the cops as their victim.

Are you paying attention to the college football season yet? My pal Mickey Thompson is – and he’s ready to make his prediction on the Red River Rivalry score: OU 82, Texas 81 in 5 overtimes. LOL. He may be onto something.

The weather for the weekend ahead looks like September. Look for and light winds with high temperatures in the 80s and lows in the upper 60s. We may have a little shower Friday but, other than that, sunshine!  Get out and have a fabulous time both on the lake and at your favorite club or restaurant.  Remember, though… wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
