Dining With a Tropical Flair
The Parrot Steakhouse & Grill brings a tropical twist to Grand Lake.
Perched above Honey Creek Landing Marina in Grove, this lakeside eatery offers a laid-back, tropical ambience, a menu with lots of variety and, best of all, great food and service that will keep you coming back again and again.
With attention paid to every detail for a truly memorable dining experience, owners Terry and Carolyn Eskew have created a full-service restaurant destination.
The restaurant’s classic tropical decor — thatched roofs, tiki torches, palm trees, bamboo and plenty of colorful artwork featuring parrots, of course — combined with its casual, relaxed attitude makes it clear that life’s a beach every day at The Parrot.
The Parrot’s tropical vibe even extends to the restaurant’s greeter, Jake. A colorful calico macaw, Jake has been greeting the restaurant’s customers since it opened. Jake’s cage sits in the restaurant’s entry, giving the macaw ample opportunity to greet customers as they wait to be seated by the hostess.
This tropical oasis provides a colorful and fun backdrop for The Parrot’s real draw — the outstanding food prepared by the restaurant’s talented chefs and served by a friendly, first-rate waitstaff.
The extensive menu features a wide variety of well-prepared and creative dishes that offers something for everyone. Burgers, sandwiches, salads, pasta, Alaskan beer battered cod, steaks and St. Louis style ribs are just a sampling of the menu’s variety.
The signature dishes at The Parrot are always a delicious choice and include coconut shrimp, fish tacos, filet of beef and more. Another signature dish that’s also a lake favorite, the restaurant’s chicken fried steak has been featured on “Discover Oklahoma”. It is a full half-pound of tenderized sirloin steak, hand breaded and golden fried. The chicken fried steak is served with mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables and a hot roll.
The Parrot’s Specials
In addition to the tasty items on the menu, The Parrot also offers several specials each week. Mondays are All-You-Can-Eat Catfish from open to close. The catfish is served with fries, coleslaw and hushpuppies. Sushi is the featured special on Monday nights, beginning at 4 p.m. An amazing meal, the sushi is prepared by owner Terry Eskew.
Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. diners can enjoy All-You-Can-Eat Crab Legs or Peel ’n’ Eat Shrimp. Warm and delicious homemade clam chowder is also a tasty special available on Thursdays.
It’s surf and turf night at The Parrot on Fridays, when the special offerings include a decadent, award-winning seafood bisque as well as a Prime Rib special available from 5 p.m. to close.
Available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Sunday special is fried chicken that is lightly seasoned and fried to crispy, golden perfection.
The Parrot also has full-service bar, so you can enjoy a refreshing adult beverage, maybe even one with a little umbrella to add to the tropical vibe.
In addition to the fantastic food and excellent, friendly service, The Parrot also serves up a magnificent view from its spacious dining room and the comfortable outdoor seating on the deck. This view includes breathtaking sunsets, which inspired The Parrot’s now-famous night sunset toast.
Whether you come by land or by Grand — there are eight courtesy slips available — a visit to The Parrot will add a dash of island fun and make your dining experience extra special.
Where We Started
Terry and Carolyn Eskew were no strangers to the restaurant business or hungry people when they opened The Parrot.
Longtime residents of Grand Lake, the couple owned Abbots Convenience Store near the Elk River Bridge before opening a restaurant adjacent to the store that quickly became one of the most popular places to eat on the north side of Grand Lake.
Believing Grand Lake needed a full-service restaurant destination, the Eskews opened The Parrot Steakhouse & Grill. The family-style restaurant is now a popular lakeside hot spot.
In 2019, the Eskews extended their culinary offerings by opening a barbecue restaurant, Honey Creek BBQ. Located just south of Honey Creek Bridge at the Cherokee Queen Motel, Honey Creek BBQ features a signature barbecue menu that showcases Terry Eskew’s signature flavored rubs and savory, slow-cooked meat that will melt in your mouth.
