Not tethered to the bounds of any one culture, Mother’s Day is truly a universal holiday like no other. Setting aside an official day to honor mothers and maternal figures is a formal practice celebrated nearly everywhere in the world.
On Sunday, May 8, Grand Lakers will be expressing their love for Mom, and these local businesses made sure there’s no shortage of special dinners, discounts, and sales to help make this year a memory she’ll forever cherish.


Shangri-La
The Mother’s Day Weekend Fun at Shangri-La begins Friday evening at Doc’s Bar & Grill with live entertainment by Kevin Price from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
If Mom is a golfer, there is a closest-to-the-pin competition all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the simulator bay at The Anchor Activity Park. If her golf clubs don’t do her justice, there’s a great opportunity to get her fitted with a new set Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shangri-La Golf Club “Demo Day” with Player Development Specialist Ryan Dalton demonstrating and fitting Ping, Callaway, and Titleist clubs. If pickleball is more her speed, there is a Co-Ed Pickleball Mixer on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Anchor Racquet Club – and a special Siete de Mayo (as opposed to Cinco de Mayo) “tequila time” celebration at the Racquet Club Saturday night from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. And how about horse racing? Don’t miss the Kentucky Derby watch party at The Anchor Sports Bar at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.
On Mother’s Day, there are two fabulous Brunch Buffets to treat your favorite lady. At Doc’s Bar & Grill, the Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet ($35 per person - $15 for kids 12 and under) features a cold display, salad display, carving station, hot station (with 5 entrée choices), as well as a breakfast station from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Doc’s is always open to the public seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
For Shangri-La Members and registered guests at the resort, The Summit Restaurant also offers a Mother’s Day brunch extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $45 - $20 for kids 12 and under. The Summit Mother’s Day Brunch features an assortment of hors d’ oeuvres, five entrees, and a special kids’ menu for the youngsters in the family. The Brunch will also feature live entertainment by harpist Demaris Rector. The Summit Restaurant is also open to the public Sunday evening for dinner service.

River Bend Casino & Hotel

Clanton’s Cafe
A family tradition in Vinita since 1927, Clanton's Cafe Is the oldest continually owned family restaurant on Route 66 in the state of Oklahoma. Generations of Clanton's have prepared meals for their neighbors.
